Texas Abortion Law & the Never Hillarys

Bernie Sanders implored his followers, in his 2016 Democrat Convention speech, to vote for Hillary Clinton, cuz the critical US Supreme Court appointment was at stake. ( Who dreamed it would be three?) Yesterday’s USSC’s shocking decision on the Texas abortion law is what Sanders was vehemently warning against.

Bernie’s most ardent fans ignored him completely and organized the “Never Hillary” campaign of anger. The first time in my lifetime that people actually vowed and went out to vote against somebody; of their own party no less. Yikes! Maybe Hoover in 1932 was the last time? LOL!

Trump won Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin by a total of 77,744 votes. In those 3 states Sanders received 111,851 write-in votes. Do the math. Many boycotted. None voted for Hillary. What were you thinking!?

There’s also the case of Florida with 161,000 unidentified write-in votes “for Micky Mouse and others”. Evidently Fla doesn’t keep specific records of write-ins but it would be interesting to consider how many of those unidentified 161,000 votes were actually for Sanders since Trump won Florida with fewer than 113,000 votes. By reason Sanders must have been the write-in candidate for most of those. Not many people actually motivate to vote for Popeye and such.

While the Republicans all voted for Trump as expected, the determining electorate block was the Never Hillarys who, like Trump, were motivated by personal vengeance and ill-will. They should have voted on policy.

It’s all well and good that the Never Hillarys were passionate about Bernie but while having such reverence for his philosophy, they ignored his wisdom, political experience and exhortation to vote for Clinton. They should have paid attention we now know.

I have been a Berniephile since he was the notorious socialist mayor of Burlington, VT, accused of treason. And Reagan was president. When he spoke at the convention I listened.

This article is, I admit, a bit of a hindsight but I wrote about the Never Hillarys then because I too was a thorough Sanders man; until the nomination. I thought the Never Hillary group was out-of-line and it could only help Trump. In truth though I didn’t think that Trump would win. And of course he didn’t, except by 77,774 votes in those three states.

And now we have Texas anti-everything cancel culture laws that will tsunami across half of America. I don’t imagine any Never Hillarys will be rushing to “like” this essay. But some things need to be said.
